17th Century English Country Kitchen Furniture (1610-1705)

Price: $6.00

17th Century English Country Kitchen Furniture features furniture from the Late Tudor, Jacobean, Charles I,  Cromwellian, and early William & Mary periods, which makes it an excellent companion book to the Cabinetmaker's Guide for Dollhouse Furniture, Volume 3: Jacobean and William and Mary Furniture (1650-1750) and The Whitman House (a TSC Building): Volume 8 in the Best of TSC Series, due out in September, 2016. Originally designed in 1979 as part of a "club" project, including a roombox design from Pete Westcott, the projects included in this book have been out of circulation since 1983 and were not published in either the Cabinetmaker's Guides or The Scale Cabinetmaker. All of the plans and patterns are 1":1' (1/12th scale) and provide step by step instructions.

CMG1: 19th Century Country Furniture: Cabinetmaker's Guide for Dollhouse Furniture Vol. 1

Price: $12.00

50th Anniversary Edition!

In 1964, well before the rise of the dollhouse miniature hobby, Helen Bennett Dorsett published the first of what would become a 10 book series: 19th Century Country Furniture: A Cabinetmaker's Guide to Dollhouse Furniture. The furniture in the book includes factory-made pieces (post-1840s) that would have been found in many Victorian homes and would have survived into the 20th Century.  Based on the furniture pattern books of early to mid-19th Century, the first Cabinetmaker's Guide provides a section on construction notes, including information on joinery and a section of plans and patterns for enough furniture to furnish the average four room dollhouse, including two bedrooms, a parlor, and a dining room  or kitchen with dining area. All of the patterns are 1":1' (1/12th scale), although the stated measurements are in full dimension to accommodate modelers in 1/12th and 1/24th scale. Each plan includes full elevations (top, front, and side), as well as construction notes specific to each piece of furniture. As her introduction indicates, the original book was designed for hobbyists with at least some knowledge of hand tools and some basic skills.

The Best of TSC: The "Lazy Susan" Apartment c. 1920s

Price: $10.00

The "Lazy Susan" Apartment was one of Helen Dorsett's last roombox projects. Spread across two issues, the series focused on an experimental apartment design from the 1920's that incorporated a turn table that housed a small kitchen, a narrow "library" (desk and bookcase), a fold-away bed, and a closet, with two chests of drawers. Although the apartment was never actually built (mostly because there was no way to actually plumb the kitchen), the model provides plenty of challenge and hours of modeling pleasure (not to mention a roombox that will generate a fair number of "ohhhhs and ahhhhs." The book  includes complete plans, patterns, and instructions the Lazy Susan Apartment and the furnishings, as well as a crash course in metalworking and bending.
